An August 2026 internal audit identified abnormal Flock Safety searches by civilian employee Melissa Renee Smith. The department said the employee admitted using the system for a personal, non-law-enforcement purpose and resigned. Prosecutors later charged Smith with two counts of misuse of official information by a public servant. Court records described 259 personal inquiries over roughly three years using law-enforcement credentials and systems including MULES, NCIC, REJIS-connected resources and Missouri Department of Revenue data. Public reporting connects Smith to the earlier Flock misuse case, but does not establish that all 259 inquiries were Flock searches.
